Bernie has put these upgrades to good use, achieving an impressive twelfth place at the King of the Mountain event presented by Summit Racing, all while maintaining a full interior and running on 275 tires! His success can be attributed to his strategic use of rear trailing arms, coilover lower A-arms, and the ¾” solid rear sway bar, which collectively enhance his vehicle’s handling characteristics. Enhancing Performance with Smart Adjustments
By installing the rear coilover bracket and control arm relocation kits, Bernie has gained the ability to adjust ride height and shock location. This bracket supports three trailing arm positions, allowing for precise tuning of the instant center. Additionally, the ¾” solid rear sway bar was chosen specifically for autocross and road racing, which helps reduce inside rear wheel lift and enhances the car’s rotation during turns.
Up front, the coilover-only lower A-arms lower the center of gravity and reduce ride height by half an inch, further improving corner handling. These UMI Performance upgrades are designed to optimize the performance of any 1978-1988 GM G-Body.
