2019 Year in Review

2019 was an epic year in UMI history – and one that makes us feel excited for 2020. We began with the debut of our 2nd Gen Camaro. It started life by winning DriveAutoX Charlotte with Sam Strano behind the wheel – after only two quick test sessions at UMI Motorsports Park. Then it went to Daytona and ran 165 on the high banks. As the season progressed we chipped away at improvements and finished the year with our first big in-house championship run. Our very own UMI_Roger piloted the ’71 Camaro to the grand champion spot at the Northeast Musclecar Challenge. This proved the merits of the UMI #cornermax system and gave us momentum for 2020.

Fall of 2019 was also exciting as we debuted our highly anticipated squarebody truck product line. After a year of daily driving and completion of the Hot Rod Power Tour Long Haul, UMI_Nate had everything dialed-in and perfected. Speaking of Power Tour, we completed our first Power Tour in 2019 along with numerous Good Guys events, Carlisle events and random Pro-Touring style events. Our crew was busy racing across the country and proving our products to the world.

UMI Motorsports Park was once again a focal point and for good reason. We were busy testing products all spring and early summer but then focused on the UMI Autocross Challenge. Ninety of our closest friends enjoyed three days of car fun at the famous oval turned family fun center. The 2018 event took a week to sell out whereas 2019 took less than a minute. We are loving this trend and are looking forward to the 2020 event.

In August, UMI King of the Mountain took on an almost mystical identity. The cast of characters, drama, excitement, speed and atmosphere was a sight to behold. The four wide salute to the hillside full of fans had us emotional as we saw hard work pay off and also saw 32 of the best Pro-Touring cars lined up in formation for the world to see. For the first time ever, a Pro-Touring Autocross shootout was held under the lights. When the smoke settled we crowned Jeremy Swenson as King of the Mountain and presented a big check for $10k. To finish out the year we hosted Jeremy and his winning C6 at the PRI show and debuted KOTM 2.0 Old Vs New. The invite list was highly anticipated, highly sought after, sometimes controversial, and perhaps most importantly the hottest ticket in our motorsports world.

For 2020 we are looking forward to another great year of manufacturing the best parts and hosting some fun events. We will be expanding our squarebody and 2nd Gen product lines in addition to adding and planning other platforms. UMI Motorsports Park will be busy with three big events including the newly announced Optima DriveAutoX debut event in June. We signed on as presenting sponsor of the DriveAutoX series and are looking forward to a great partnership with the Optima team. July will feature the always exciting UMI Autocross Challenge. Both DriveAutoX and UMI Autocross Challenge have avenues to earn your way in to UMI KOTM 2.0. Speaking of that, we are planning for KOTM 2.0 to be bigger and better than the inaugural event and look forward to seeing the hillside and stands packed again!
