UMI’s 1971 Camaro Wins Northeast Muscle Car Challenge!

UMI Performance Wins 2019 Northeast Muscle Car Challenge!

The 2019 Northeast Musclecar Challenge held at Pittsburgh International Race Complex felt like a throwback to the beginning days of the Pro-Touring movement. The field of 30 vintage cars really suited UMI’s product line and we were happy to see a number of competitors using our parts (including LADIES CHAMPION Val Pichette). With a year cutoff of 1987, we decided to take the UMI ‘71 Camaro. Lead mechanic Roger Irvine is equally at home behind the wheel and took care of driving duties for the weekend with crew chief Nate Peterman taking care of tuning duties.

Thursday was Pitt Race North track for road racing. Brian Finch took the top spot with UMI Roger in P2. The stock front clip filled full of UMI CornerMax goodness and the UMI rear leafs and sway bar had some great grip for sure. Friday was autocross day at the Pitt Race autocross lot. Akron Sports Car Club had a nice layout for Friday morning and switched it up for Friday afternoon. Roger was in the hunt in both sessions mixed in with Bob BertelsenDustin McNeill and Brian Finch. Roger finished Friday with a win and a 2nd. Saturday’s course was long, technical, and really suited the suspension on the ’71. When the dust settled, Roger was in 2nd place again. The stage win and overall strong showing was enough to earn Roger the GRAND CHAMPION trophy at the 2019 Northeast Musclecar Challenge!
